Bathroom Remodel in Newburgh, Waterproofed First

A bathroom is the one room you deliberately soak every day, and what sits behind the tile decides whether it lasts. SSKM builds the waterproofing, substrate and ventilation correctly first, then finishes it to look the way you wanted.

The Difference

Why Homeowners Choose SSKM for a Bathroom Remodel

Built Behind the Tile First

Correct substrate, a properly detailed shower pan and sealed penetrations. The part you never see is the part that decides how long the room lasts.

One Crew, Inside Your Home

Plumbing, tile, carpentry and paint handled by the same team, so nobody is waiting on a trade that has not turned up.

Straight Talk on Layout

We will tell you what moving a fixture actually involves and what the floor structure allows before you commit to it.

Watch For These

Signs You Need Bathroom Remodel

  • Soft or springy floor around the toilet or tub, which usually means a long-running leak
  • Cracked grout, loose tile, or dark staining creeping up the shower wall
  • A fan that does not clear the mirror, or no ventilation to the outside at all
  • A layout that wastes the room, or fixtures you have to squeeze past
  • Fixtures and finishes original to the house and well past their service life

Where the Budget Actually Goes

The single biggest cost lever is whether you keep the layout. Fixtures staying where they are means the plumbing largely stays where it is. Move the shower to the other wall and you are into relocating supply and waste lines, which depends on what the floor structure will allow and is a very different job.

Ventilation Is Not Optional Here

In our climate the bathroom fan matters more than people expect. Warm, wet air with nowhere to go finds its way into wall and ceiling cavities, and in a cold Hudson Valley winter it condenses there. That is how you get mold behind a wall that looked perfect from the room side. A fan that is actually sized for the space and vented outside, not into the attic, is part of the job rather than an upgrade.

Living With the Work

If it is the only full bathroom in the house, the sequence matters as much as the finish. We plan the order of work around that and tell you honestly which days the room is genuinely out of use, rather than leaving you to find out. You deal with Luis and Steven directly, not a project manager relaying messages, which is usually what makes the difference on a job happening inside your home.

If you are remodeling more than the bathroom, our home remodeling page covers whole-home work, and kitchen remodels have their own page.

Bathroom Remodel: Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

It depends on scope. A surface refresh is a short job. A full gut with new waterproofing and tile takes longer, and moving fixtures longer still. We give you a realistic schedule in writing and tell you which days the room is genuinely unusable.

Can you move the shower or toilet?

Usually, yes, but it depends on what the floor structure allows and where the waste line runs. We check that before quoting rather than discovering it mid-job.

Do I need to replace the substrate behind the tile?

In the wet zone, yes. Ordinary drywall behind a shower is a failure waiting to happen. Proper substrate and a correctly detailed pan are the difference between a bathroom that lasts and one that rots quietly.

Why does the fan matter so much?

Warm wet air that cannot escape condenses inside wall and ceiling cavities during a Hudson Valley winter. A fan sized for the room and vented outside, not into the attic, prevents that.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. We look at the room, talk through what you want, and give you a written quote at no cost and no obligation.
